Qualitas Manufacturing Inc. (QMI) was founded by Jim Miller and the Miller Family.
After purchasing the assets of Mid-Continent Rolling Shutter in Naperville, Illinois, Jim began laying the foundation for what was destined to become an industry-leader in security solutions.
Starting with just two men and a truck, and initially branded as Window Wise, the team sold awnings, windows, and eventually security shutters on Chicago’s South Side.
Steve Miller joins the business in 1989, begins expansion into retail.
QMI entered the national chain market by protecting pharmacies. In developing a specialized, easy-to-install system that protected counters when pharmacists were not present, QMI revolutionized a key segment of retail security.
Growth began to accelerate.
Chris Miller joins the family business and begins distributing parts to manufacturers and local dealers in Florida following Hurricane Andrew.
Joined by Jim Daluga (Brother-in-Law) in 1995, they broadened the company’s retail focus.
QMI introduced the AL5, a single-wall aluminum rolling shutter for storefront security. With its non-slip hinge and punched options, it created a physical barrier while allowing night-time vision.
Recognizing the need for expansion to cater to its growing clientele, QMI relocated from its Elmhurst facility. Through two phases of buildout, QMI developed its spacious and state-of-the-art headquarters in Itasca, IL.
QMI Roll Shutter Supply becomes QMI Security Solutions, adding people and capabilities to meet customer needs.
The company name and identity began to evolve, while staying true to its commitment to quality and customer service.
QMI introduces mid-store and back-of-store security with a range of product cases. What began as cigarette cases grew into other floor merchandise and inventory room solutions for electronics and other goods.
Building on its early storm ventures, QMI accelerates its market entry through an acquisition of Roll-a-Way.
After introducing the product in the early 2000s, Transparoll™ gains significant traction in specialty markets.
The solutions provided unmatched clarity and low-headroom capability for demanding indoor and architectural applications.
Significant design improvements were made to the AL-Series commercial shutters. Transitioning from the AL5 through AL6 to the AL7, QMI enhanced slat design, rail strength, and locking capabilities.
With its unmatched strength and aesthetics, the AL7 shutter system quickly became the industry standard for storefront security.
Three years after the 2012 launch, Qompact Hurricane Shutters are celebrated globally, clinching the coveted Innovation Prize for Rolling Shutters at the R+T Show in Stuttgart, Germany.
As the “World’s Best Shutter in the Smallest Box”, this landmark solution leverages ingeniously nested slats that coil into a roll 40-50% smaller than traditional shutters.
QMI is recapitalized under the stewardship of Prospect Partners. Working hand-in-hand with our visionary management team, this partnership steers the company through a new era of growth, diversification, and expansion into new physical security products.
