Choose From an Array of Distinctive Grille Styles

QMi’s innovative line of side-folding grilles is designed for sophisticated style and defense you can depend on. Our standard selection of grilles includes a polycarbonate style (Q-Clear), a perforated steel type (Q-Air), a solid, opaque panel (Q-Solid), and two open-style / patterned grilles (Q-Check and Q-Guard).

Each standard grille style is now available in our new space-saving Profile Line series—a sleek grille design for modern business. With slim 4-inch panels, the Profile Line allows maximum visibility to your secured area while blending seamlessly into architectural designs. A standard 6″ stud wall pocket option is also available for even greater ease of installation and space efficiency for each Profile Line grille style.

FAQs

What is the minimum clear path required?

An 8 in. minimum clear path is required for our Performance Line, while the Profile Line requires just 5 in.

What type of header and structure is needed?

The header and related structure must support 180 PLF with a max deflection < 1.5 in. General side-folding grille weight for design purposes is 180 pounds per linear foot times the estimated stack in feet. Remember that this product can stack at any point along the path.

Does QMi provide the support header?

No. The design and installation of the support header is by others.

What are the pocket requirements?

The pocket should be at a minimum width of 8 in. for the Performance Line (recommend 10 in. for serviceability). The pocket for the Profile Line should be a minimum of 5 in.

Is a Side-Folding Grille the same as a Scissor Gate?

No. A side-folding grille folds horizontally with interlinked panels, is attached to the building structure, and prioritizes aesthetics. Scissor gates are open-style gates with a crisscross design and open horizontally for straightforward entryway security. They are typically not secured to the building structure and are attached to adjacent walls. Scissor gates fold into themselves, creating a stack that is not very wide but typically only has pins into the floor at the post locations.

At what radius does the grille curve?

14 in. and 24 in. standard curves for both Performance and Profile Lines. Custom curves are available upon request and engineering completion (additional charge may apply).

At what angles can the grille curve?

Standard angles are 45° or 90°, but any angle from 0-90° can be created by field cutting the standard angles to fit your layout during installation.

Is there a maximum width / height for Side-Folding grilles?

Our side-folding grilles’ maximum height is 12 ft. There is no maximum width; however, the grille will start to get rather heavy to push or pull at extensive widths after roughly 35 ft. Header and bracing considerations become increasingly reliant at extreme widths. Contact our engineering team for further details (180 PLF, 1.5 in. deflection, point load analysis).

How large is the stack when condensed?

This is entirely dependent on the length and layout of the gate. The length and layout determine the panels and posts that drive the stack size once folded. A good rule of thumb for the Performance Line is 2 in. per liner foot of opening and 2.25 in. for the Profile Line.

Is there a bottom track?

No. Our grilles are attached to a structural header with post options to lock the grilles in place.
